Phonica Records will be commemorating its 20th anniversary with a special compilation that will feature exclusive tracks from renowned artists like Daniel Avery, Dam Swindle, Tim Reaper, and Willow. The record store opened back in 2003, at a time when the music industry seemed to be struggling. The founders aimed to create a space that caters to all genres of dance music and welcomes all enthusiasts. Through its growing relationship with German labels Kompakt, Perlon, and Playhouse, Phonica gained a reputation as a knowledgeable hub for electro house, minimal, and micro house.
Phonica also launched its own record label four years after its opening. Initially, the label released productions from staff members like Will Saul, Anthea, and Hector. It quickly became known as a starting point for upcoming stars, putting out hits from Paul Woolford, Midland, and Peggy Gou. Subsequently, Phonica Records, in turn, created its own sub-labels, each with its distinct style and direction, such as Phonica White, Phonica Records Special Editions, Karakul, and Phonica AM.
To celebrate its two decades in the music industry, the Phonica team has put together a brand new compilation, divided into three parts. The album will include 14 never-before-heard tracks and a presentation of the best releases over the past decade from all Phonica labels. The compilation will be available in three CDs and four limited 12″ vinyl samplers along with digital streaming platforms, including some hidden gems from Phonica’s extensive label output.
The compilation will feature tracks like “Bell” by popular artist Daniel Avery, “Allright (Just A Tribute)” by Dam Swindle, “On My Mind (Freak Mix)” by Toby Tobias, and “Willbush” by Willow. The digital version of the album, which includes a cherry-picked selection of gems from Phonica’s label output, will be released on December 25th. The full tracklist of the compilation is available for viewing online.
Phonica Records has come a long way since its founding days, and its development into a hub for music enthusiasts is truly impressive. The label remains an essential player on the scene. The team’s dedication, along with the support of audiophiles worldwide, ensure that Phonica continues to make a lasting contribution to music history
