Erik Ten Hag, Manchester United’s manager has labelled Marcus Rashford’s birthday party, hours after their loss against Manchester City, as “unacceptable”. The planned celebration didn’t have an impact on Rashford’s appearance at the training session the following day. The forward has since apologised for his actions.
Ten Hag was clearly unhappy about the situation, with the optics of Rashford being seen out partying when he had just been part of a poor display in which United ended up being comprehensively outclassed was unacceptable.
Although unwilling to comment on whether Rashford was fined as a result of the incident, Ten Hag confirmed that Rashford was not omitted as a disciplinary measure for Manchester United’s recent EFL Cup fourth-round defeat by Newcastle.
This isn’t the first time Ten Hag has reprimanded Rashford for his behaviour. Last year, on New Year’s Eve, the striker was a substitute for United’s Premier League game against Wolves after being late for a team meeting. He scored the winner later after being brought in as a substitute.
