Watch Carl Cox’s avatar perform in virtual reality with Sensorium Galaxy

A new virtual performance by legendary DJ Carl Cox has been unveiled on the Sensorium Galaxy platform. The virtual performance, called Intermundium, was preceded by mention of futuristic structures and the virtual world PRISM, which responded to the music. Sensorium Galaxy used cutting-edge technology to create the Intermundium show, which used 2D streaming, VR-360 and full-fledged VR formats. Cox’s avatar, also known as Coxy 2.0, performed a 30-minute-long set with over one million viewers tuning in over the opening weekend.

Carl Cox, in a statement, said: “The journey into Sensorium Galaxy with my Intermundium show was surreal at times. Once the avatar was created I was watching what I call Coxy 2.0 reacting in real time to my music and at the same time seeing the technological developments that the virtual environment had allowed. I could see that the virtual world can sit nicely alongside the physical, which is where Intermundium came from – it means the space between worlds.”

Sasha Tityanko, Deputy CEO and Art Director at Sensorium, said “Into this new digital realm, creative possibilities appear endless, and the digital sky is the only limit. That is just the beginning of our journey.” The virtual show was free to access in 2D and VR, allowing as many “explorers” to join the journey as possible.

Cox has always been at the forefront of innovative ways we experience dance music and club culture. His manager, Alon Shulman said: “Carl has always been someone who is known for pushing the whole electronic music industry forward. He’s known as a pioneer and someone who does things first and that spirit never stops…we decided that the biggest barrier to remove would be the cost to participate.” Sensorium’s strategy was to create a platform to showcase its technology and artists’ performances for free, opening up doors to new possibilities.
