Over the weekend, police made numerous arrests at an illegal rave which was attended by hundreds of people in Suffolk. The unlicensed event took place at a disused mushroom factory in Stanton on Saturday night. The Suffolk Constabulary were called to the scene after reports of a large gathering in the area. When they arrived, they found around 300 vehicles surrounding the event. A lorry and sound equipment were seized during the investigation, and nine arrests were made on the night.
One man was charged with theft and is due to appear in front of Suffolk Magistrates’ Court on December 11. Three of the arrests were made on suspicion of causing a public nuisance, while two were made on suspicion of theft. A further three people were arrested on suspicion of excess drinking while driving, and the final person was arrested on suspicion of drug-driving. All those arrested are remaining in custody pending further enquiries.
The local police are continuing their investigation into the illegal rave, and the landowner is currently in talks with them. Detective Superintendent Angus Moir released a statement thanking members of the public for their patience as the police worked to close the event safely. He also assured the public that this was not the end of the matter and that the investigation will continue.
This is not the first time an abandoned mushroom factory has been used as a venue for an illegal rave. In 2018, a similar event took place in a disused factory in Market Harborough, and police allowed the rave to continue until the early hours of the morning. It seems that illegal raves are becoming more common, and the police are cracking down on them with increasing severity
