NI Weather: Yellow warnings issued for heavy rain and flooding

The Met Office has warned of more rain and flooding in Northern Ireland. The warning is for counties Antrim, Armagh, Down, and Tyrone, from midnight on Sunday until noon on Monday. A second warning will then come into effect at 4 pm GMT on Monday, lasting for 23 hours until 3 pm GMT on Tuesday. An additional alert is also in place from 6 pm on Tuesday until 9 am on Wednesday. The heaviest showers are predicted to fall across County Down, with some areas expected to receive between 25 to 35mm of rain.

According to the Met Office, saturated ground conditions caused by the ongoing wet weather will increase the risk of flooding. Given the already saturated ground and rivers, further disruptions are likely. On Saturday, parts of Northern Ireland experienced flooding, which led to road closures in County Down. The A2 Antrim coast road was closed on Friday due to severe rainfall and a landslide between Glenarm and Ballygally.

Storm Ciarán is also expected to bring some disruption to southern and eastern areas of the Republic of Ireland on Wednesday, according to Met Éireann. The storm marks the second named storm of the season after Storm Agnes brought heavy rain and strong winds to the island of Ireland last month. In the Republic, County Wexford was one of the worst-affected areas, with up to 35mm of rain falling from late Saturday evening
