At the Old Bailey in London, Joshua Bowles, a former UK intelligence worker, is being sentenced for a “vicious” attack on a US government employee. Bowles called himself a terrorist after he stabbed the woman in a leisure center car park, which is three miles away from GCHQ’s base, on March 9th.

In August, Bowles pleaded guilty to attempted murder and assaulting a second person, causing actual bodily harm. The National Security Agency of the United States employed the woman, and Bowles attacked her three times with a knife at Tommy Taylors Lane in Cheltenham.

During his police interview, Bowles referred to himself as a “terrorist.” The victim was “an entirely and solely associated target for this attack” because of her job as a US government employee in the NSA of the United States,” said prosecuting barrister Duncan Penny. Mr. Penny also added that Bowles had launched a “pre-meditated, targeted, and vicious attack on an unarmed woman.”
