Sports Banger, a UK label and fashion brand, commemorates its 10-year existence with the launch of a new book, Sports Banger: Lifestyles of the Poor, Rich & Famous, written by the brand’s founder, Jonny Banger. The book, which comes out on October 28 via Thames & Hudson, explores the brand’s “anarchic story” from its studio design to its fashion shows and protests. It also features photographs, as well as contributions from writer and curator Anastasiia Fedorova, fashion writer Nathalie Khan, and installation artist Jeremy Deller.
Sports Banger began as a bootleg operation creating subversive t-shirts before evolving into a fully recognised fashion brand and record label, with recognisable and well-loved pieces such as Skepta’s merchandise, iconic Sports Banger bootlegs, one-off creations for Samantha Morton, David Hoyle and 2 Chainz featured in the book.
Speaking about the release of the book with Resident Advisor, Jonny Banger stated that it serves as a celebration and a cookbook that he hopes will encourage others to “get shit done”. The book is also billed as a meeting point between rave culture and politics, featuring eccentric British iconography.
Sports Banger: Lifestyles of the Poor, Rich & Famous charts the brand’s growth and aims to inspire readers towards a more hands-on approach to creativity.
