Emergency services in Cardiff are currently conducting a search and rescue operation after reports of a man shouting for help in the River Taff. The Wood Street entrance to the city center was temporarily closed in both directions earlier today but has since reopened. Cardiff Bus has also announced several diversions in place. A college student named Kaiden Campisi reported the man at around 07.40 British Summer Time. “He was shouting and screaming for help. I chased him to try and keep up with him,” he said. Unfortunately, he lost the man in the fast-flowing river.
Police and emergency crews are continuing the search alongside other emergency services. The South Wales Police stated there have been several crews at the location since reporting the incident at 07.53 British Summer Time. In a public statement, the South Wales Fire and Rescue Service said that they were conducting a water rescue on the Wood Street bridge. The ambulance service also confirmed that it attended the scene but was subsequently stood down.
The safety of the man remains unknown; however, emergency services continue to provide all necessary resources and support to complete their operations. Witnesses describe the incident as a harrowing ordeal, and many have shown concern for the man’s wellbeing. A rescue helicopter was even seen flying over the river as authorities continue to work on finding the individual.
