During a walk on Pen Pych mountain, Rhondda Cynon Taf, Hollie Veryard’s dog, Indie, fell 10 metres down a hole. Hollie was initially unsure of what had happened to Indie the spaniel, but noticed several holes in the ground when she went back to the spot she last saw her beloved pet. After calling for her dog and receiving no response, she alerted rescuers that Indie had fallen into a hole, leading to six-hour rescue efforts by the South and Mid Wales Cave Rescue Team, involving South Wales Fire and Rescue Service.
Other walkers tried to help, including one individual who dangled down the holes while someone held his ankles. However, the crevice was too small for anyone to climb down, so the rescue team fashioned a noose to fit around Indie and pulled her out. The six-hour drama unfolded after the spaniel, which was unhurt, had been allowed off her lead. South and Mid Wales Cave Rescue Team described the rescue operation as a great team effort.
When Indie was finally rescued, it was a very emotional moment for Hollie. She described the moment that Indie emerged from the hole as “emotional” and added that “the moment her feet were on the floor her tail was wagging.” The dog’s rescue was a great relief, and Hollie was grateful to everyone who helped in the rescue operation
