The M32 in Bristol was closed in both directions for several hours after heavy rain caused flooding. The National Highways South West sent contractors and extra resources to the scene at junction 3 A4320 Easton Way in St Pauls to clear the water. The M32 links the M4 with Bristol city centre.
As a result of the flooding, long delays were formed back to junction 1 at Hambrook as drivers struggled to pass through. The situation was so severe that the authorities had to close the motorway for several hours before reopening it to traffic.
Following the reopening of the M32, National Highways South West announced that the motorway was now open to all vehicles. In a tweet, they thanked road users for their patience and understanding during the disruption. The authorities have advised drivers to take extra care when driving on wet roads.
According to reports, this is not the first time that the M32 has experienced severe flooding after heavy rain. In 2012, the motorway was closed for several hours when heavy rain caused flooding, leaving many vehicles stranded. The authorities have been urged to take necessary measures to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future
