S4C’s Chief Content Officer, Llinos Griffin-Williams, has departed from the Welsh-language broadcaster after allegations of inappropriate behavior at a bar in France. According to BBC Wales, the incident took place in Nantes, where Wales was playing Georgia in the Rugby World Cup. Reports suggest that heated exchanges occurred between Griffin-Williams and production staff at a gig celebrating Cardiff music venue Clwb Ifor Bach’s 40th birthday, before conflict continued at a second bar in the city.
S4C and Griffin-Williams have been approached for comment, with no response so far. The investigation into allegations of bullying behavior at S4C was previously announced at the start of May; however, no date has yet been confirmed for the release of the report. A former member of staff, who wished to remain anonymous, said the recent allegations are “all too familiar”.
Griffin-Williams has worked with S4C since April 2022. The channel has aired many different types of programming, including music, drama, documentaries, children’s shows, sports, and news and current affairs. Established in 1982, S4C was formed to provide quality Welsh-language programming in a range of genres for all audiences. Currently, it runs six channels, including S4C HD and Clic, and is available on TV, online, and video-on-demand services.
This departure is likely to spark concerns about the culture and practices at S4C. While S4C’s exit remains under wraps, her resignation may prompt further revelations in the ongoing inquiry into whether systemic bullying has occurred within the organization.
