The family of Kim Damti, a 22-year-old Irish-Israeli woman who had been missing since the Hamas attacks in southern Israel last weekend, has confirmed her death. She was last seen at the Supernova music festival in Re’im when it was attacked by gunmen. The killing of Damti and many more at the festival were part of multiple Hamas attacks on Saturday which claimed more than 1,000 lives of citizens in Israel and from around the world. More than 260 bodies have already been recovered from the site so far.
Ireland’s foreign minister has expressed condolences on behalf of the Irish government and people to Damti’s grieving family. Micheál Martin emphasized that the loss of a child is devastating, but the killing of a daughter in such circumstances is indescribable. Damti’s sister, Laura, called her “our angel, our flower” and accused the militants of murder. Her aunt, Pat Cooper, also thanked those who had supported the family so far. Taoiseach (Irish Prime Minister) Leo Varadkar said that Ireland was united in mourning for Damti after her senseless and barbaric killing.
The funeral of Kim Damti will take place in Israel on Thursday at Gedera cemetery. The attack on the Supernova music festival occurred during a wave of Hamas attacks launched nearby, prompting neighbouring countries to express concerns. Israel has blamed Hamas for the attacks.
