In Gloucester, two schools have been placed on lockdown following an incident involving a group of individuals, resulting in a boy sustaining injuries. The episode occurred outside St Peter’s High School on Chalford Road, where witnesses reported seeing one male carrying a “long-bladed item.” Armed police are actively searching for those involved, who fled the scene before officers arrived. Fortunately, the injured boy’s condition is minor, and he was promptly taken to hospital for treatment.
The lockdown affects both St Peter’s High School and the nearby Willow Primary Academy. Authorities have asked parents not to come to the schools to ensure safety and avoid disruption. A police spokesperson emphasized that there is “no ongoing threat at the school” and that all pupils remain safe inside the premises. Despite this reassurance, some parents expressed their unease about the situation. Adam, a parent of a St Peter’s pupil, shared his worries, saying, “I don’t think this should happen at school. Thank God she is safe.” He also noted that the school had communicated with parents to confirm the situation was under control.
Outside the school gates, other parents conveyed their anxiety as well. One parent, whose daughter and nephew attend the school, said the family felt “so worried” and were reluctant to leave the area. She explained her concern over not having heard from the children since phones are prohibited during school hours, though police confirmation that students were safe provided some relief. An officer present reassured parents that police would remain at the school for the rest of the day, not due to any current danger, but to offer support and address questions from the community.
Lorraine Campbell, an independent councillor representing the Tuffley area, acknowledged the police statement about the lack of ongoing risk but described the incident as “very concerning” and noted the “great deal of uncertainty” it caused. She remarked on the shock felt by residents when such incidents occur so close to home, adding, “Anything like this is extremely troubling and disturbing – we are all concerned but we do all stand together on these things.” The police were first alerted to the situation at 08:50 GMT, and no further injuries have been reported beyond the one boy taken to hospital
