A 14-year-old boy who was stabbed by a man later accused of attacking multiple people on a train described the assailant as appearing “not mentally sane,” a court heard during proceedings at Cambridge Crown Court. The stabbing occurred in Peterborough the day before the defendant, Anthony Williams, allegedly tried to kill ten individuals on a London-bound train, which was forced to make an emergency stop in Huntingdon in November 2025.
During a recorded interview played to the jury, the teenager recounted the incident while waiting on a footbridge over the River Nene with a friend before they planned to go trick or treating. He said Williams suddenly drew a knife from his waistband and stabbed him because he was the closest person at the time. Reflecting on the attack, the boy said, “I didn’t feel like he was mentally sane. His eyes were wide open, like he was on something,” and mentioned that the assailant shouted something resembling “are you involved?” before stabbing him. The victim added that the attacker seemed prepared for a knife fight, as if waiting for a response.
Following the attack, the boy and his friend ran off to hide in some nearby bushes, where they managed to call the police. Williams, aged 33 and living in Peterborough, denies 14 counts of attempted murder, including four alleged attacks predating the train incident. Jurors later viewed recorded interviews with other alleged victims, including Dawid Taborski, who said the accused pulled a knife from a backpack and lunged at him while asking, “are you involved, are you involved?” Taborski described fleeing for his life after telling Williams to move back.
Another witness, William Ogelby, described a separate attack while he was on his way to a cashpoint. Ogelby recalled being greeted with the word “wagwan” by the attacker, whom he then saw pull out a kitchen knife from a rucksack and attempt to stab him multiple times. He said he dodged the lunges and ran away, believing the man intended to kill him.
The prosecution informed the jury that Williams has some mental health issues, which may or may not become relevant throughout the trial. What remains for the jurors to decide is whether Williams intended to kill during the attacks, as his involvement in them is not being disputed. Besides the Peterborough stabbing and the Huntingdon train incident, Williams faces accusations related to an attempted murder on a Docklands Light Railway train in London during the early hours of 1 November. The trial is ongoing, with jurors scheduled to return to court on Monday
