Businesses invited to free road risk briefing in Liverpool

Liverpool businesses are being invited to a complimentary breakfast briefing focused on helping employers better understand and handle the risks linked to work-related driving. This event is a collaborative effort between Liverpool City Council and Driving for Better Business, taking place at the Holiday Inn Liverpool City Centre on Wednesday, 28 October.

The session aims to shed light on the legal obligations employers face when their employees drive for work purposes, whether it involves traveling to meetings, visiting clients, delivering goods, or using company or personal vehicles for site visits. Given that about one-third of road traffic accidents involve someone driving on work duties, managing these risks is critical for organizations regardless of their size.

Scheduled to run from 8am until 11.30am, the free briefing will offer actionable guidance, advice, and resources that attendees can implement without delay. A panel of experts will cover five primary topics: employer legal responsibilities, driver impairment—including the effects of alcohol, drugs, and medication—driver health and wellbeing, driver behaviour, and vehicle safety. The event will also discuss business responsibilities related to policies, record keeping, and management reporting.

Participants will receive a resource pack along with access to downloadable materials after the event, including presentations and tools designed to help companies identify weaknesses and improve their approach to road risk management. There will also be opportunities to consult with the Council’s Business Support Service about assistance available to help local businesses grow. Additionally, representatives from Liverpool’s employment and skills team, Liverpool in Work, will be present to offer information on free recruitment support.

Councillor Dan Barrington, Liverpool City Council Cabinet Member for Transport and Connectivity, commented: “Businesses have an important role to play in keeping our roads safe. This free briefing is an opportunity for employers to hear from experts, gain practical advice and access resources that can help them manage road risk more effectively. We’re pleased to be working with Driving for Better Business to bring this event to Liverpool and would encourage businesses of all sizes to take advantage of this valuable opportunity.”
