A recent undercover investigation by ITV News, which gathered footage over the course of a year, has exposed a series of racist, violent, and sexist remarks made by some councillors and candidates from Reform UK. In response to the broadcast, Reform UK emphasized that “there is no room for racism” within their party. The footage included a Reform councillor and deputy mayor of Solihull referring to Asian homeowners as “parasites,” sparking significant controversy.
The Labour Party condemned the findings, describing them as “truly sickening” and urging that Nigel Farage, leader of Reform UK, cannot dismiss these revelations as isolated incidents from a few “bad apples.” Meanwhile, a spokesperson for Reform UK acknowledged that investigations had begun where inappropriate behavior was identified, resulting in suspensions or resignations. Nigel Farage has asserted his intention to remove problematic members from Reform UK, insisting he will be “absolutely ruthless” in addressing these issues. He has stated in the past that he does not want Reform to be seen as “a sectarian or racially based party in any way at all.” Despite these assurances, criticism has come from other political figures: the Conservative Party suggested that these incidents demonstrate Farage’s failure to prepare Reform UK for government, while Liberal Democrat leader Sir Ed Davey described the revelations as “chilling” and expressed sympathy for those fearful of such racism in their communities. A Green Party spokesperson added that “vilifying migrants and Muslims is Reform’s main focus,” and that the racist comments reflect the party’s policies
