Hampshire Police have confirmed that officers were deployed to assist their partners in managing a potential emergency situation at sea. Collaborating agencies included the Maritime and Coastguard Agency, the RNLI, and Border Security Command. To maintain public order, the police imposed restrictions under the Public Order Act, which also involved banning face coverings.
During the incident, a few officers sustained injuries and received treatment at the scene, though no serious injuries were reported among those present, according to the police. Assistant Chief Constable Simon Dodds emphasized that violence and criminal damage have no place in peaceful demonstrations.
He stated, “Our position on this has been clear that we will investigate thoroughly and take robust action against anyone responsible.” Dodds described the previous night’s events as involving “a number of incidents that were clearly not peaceful protest, rather violent public disorder,” and stressed that such behavior will not be tolerated as the force works to protect the wider Hampshire and Isle of Wight communities.
Dodds further highlighted the dedication of the officers, saying they “did not deserve to be assaulted as they worked incredibly diligently” to ensure everyone’s safety. He condemned any online abuse directed at police or partner agencies and assured that the force would collaborate with other policing bodies to address online threats. Additionally, officers will continue reviewing body-worn camera footage and publicly shared videos to detect any further offenses, with the possibility of additional arrests in the future
