DJ_Dave, a live code artist and producer, has dropped her first EP, ‘Intercell,’ a five-track record created only using algorave code as well as her own vocals and writing. Produced entirely by herself, the project emphasizes live coding as a vital part of her production process. In conjunction with every track, DJ_Dave has partnered with visual code artists Andy Rolfes and Char Stiles to construct a visualizer that models an immersive digital world recognizable to its song. DJ_Dave’s lead single ‘Bloom’ can be streamed accompanied by the visualizer.
“‘Bloom’ is about feeling extremely confident in your abilities and yourself most of the time but inevitably coming across individuals who make you feel inadequate,” DJ_Dave says to Mixmag. “It’s about particular moments from before I was an artist where I never felt good enough to be near specific individuals that I wanted to be associated with, whether it was because they were in the arts or more popular than me, or they were just better at making me feel small.”
“The meaning of Intercell breaks down to ‘Inter’ meaning within and ‘cell,’ which represents the greater live-code community that I exist in. This project offers a peek at my personal process but is also an introduction for many to the entire art of live-coding.” It was critical for DJ_Dave to integrate crucial live-coded components into her sound as she thought Intercell was a project that emphasized such elements.
You can find DJ_Dave’s InterCell streaming now, complete with a visualizer modeling an immersive digital world for each song
