Electric Zoo Festival in New York is facing a class action lawsuit after a disastrous event this year, according to a report in Rolling Stone. The final day of the festival reportedly reached capacity by midday and denied entry to around 7,000 valid ticket holders, while the first day was cancelled three hours before it was due to begin due to “global supply chain issues”. The lawsuit has been filed by two festival-goers seeking damages “on behalf of all affected patrons who paid for ticket(s) for access or entry to [Electric Zoo] were not granted access”.
Nicole Brockmole and Lauren Bair claimed that they were left “to languish in heatwave for hours after being greeted by never-ending lines to enter the festival”. Organisers promised refunds to those who were denied entry, or a partial refund for weekend ticket holders. In the past year, Electric Zoo was purchased by investment group Avant Gardner for $15m and the source claimed that the company then dismissed all staff who used to run Electric Zoo before later re-hiring them when it became clear they could not run the festival.
This is not the first setback for the festival, which had its inaugural event cancelled in 2009 when two festival-goers died from overdoses
