Police officer guilty of series of rapes and sex attacks over 17 years

Campbell Petrie, a former officer with Police Scotland, has been convicted of multiple sexual offenses that spanned over 17 years. The 50-year-old was found guilty of nine charges during a trial held at the High Court in Glasgow. These offenses occurred between 2006 and 2023.

At the time when many of the crimes were committed, Petrie was actively serving as a police officer. The charges against him include two counts of rape, indecent assault, assault with intent to rape, and assault causing injury and risk to life. These serious allegations highlight a prolonged pattern of criminal behavior during his tenure with the force.

Police Scotland confirmed that Petrie was arrested and charged in December 2023, at which point he was suspended from duty. Subsequently, he retired from the police force in the same month. The force has since been involved in the investigation process leading to his prosecution.

Currently, Petrie remains in custody as he awaits sentencing, which is scheduled for next month. The case represents a significant breach of trust given his former role as a law enforcement officer
