A woman from Tredegar, Blaenau Gwent, has been sentenced to prison after launching a campaign of false allegations against her former husband, a police officer. Jennifer Pritchard, aged 47, used a Facebook page titled “Jen’s Justice” to spread damaging lies about Stephen Pritchard, a sergeant with South Wales Police. Over a period of two months, she accused him of being a “rapist” and a “baby killer,” claims that were entirely unfounded.
Stephen Pritchard revealed that the defamatory campaign had a serious impact on his personal and professional life. Despite being cleared after an investigation by his own force, the officer highlighted the emotional toll, saying, “I was the target of a false and malicious campaign on social media to ruin my career.” He further expressed the suffering he endured, including anxiety, depression, and financial strain caused by legal proceedings, stating simply, “I just want my life back.”
During the sentencing at Cardiff Crown Court, Jennifer Pritchard pleaded guilty to a malicious communication offence on the day her trial was due to start. Prosecutor Pamela Kaiga noted Jennifer’s history, mentioning that she had previously been convicted of perverting the course of justice by spreading lies about the same man. The court heard that her false claims included accusations of domestic violence alongside the rape and baby killing allegations.
Jennifer Pritchard’s past convictions include harassment of another ex-husband and causing public nuisance in relation to an incident involving a different police officer. While her defending counsel, Tabitha Walker, argued that Jennifer was remorseful and capable of rehabilitation, the judge, Recorder Andrew Hammond, was unconvinced. He stated, “You say you’re sorry for the harm you’ve caused, but I don’t believe you,” further criticizing her history of fabricating false accusations and assessing her as posing a continued risk.
