Next year marks the 35th anniversary of the UK’s largest festival celebrating African and Caribbean music and culture, Africa Oyé, with earlybird tickets now available for the event scheduled on 19 and 20 June 2027 in Liverpool. This landmark festival, often hailed as the standout among Liverpool’s vibrant festival scene, returned triumphantly to Sefton Park this summer. Notably, it successfully transitioned from being a free festival to a ticketed event, drawing over 25,000 attendees. The weekend was filled with a sense of joy, unity, and a family-friendly spirit, highlighting a renewed enthusiasm for live music within the Oyé community.
The 2026 edition featured a dazzling lineup of international stars, including Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Patoranking, Malian singer Fatoumata Diawara, and iconic British reggae artist Janet Kay. The event’s popularity was evident as tickets for Saturday sold out completely, leaving some eager fans disappointed if they delayed purchasing. Looking ahead to 2027, festival-goers can anticipate an even more diverse blend of music and cultural expressions from Africa and its diaspora. The event will host both internationally renowned and emerging local performers, alongside community showcases and the return of Oyé’s popular DJ stage.
In addition to the musical offerings, the festival will feature an engaging array of family-friendly workshops and activities within the Oyé Family Zone. Visitors can also explore over 90 stalls in the ‘Oyé Village,’ presenting world cuisine, arts, crafts, and more, ensuring a rich cultural experience for all ages. Paul Duhaney, the Artistic Director of Africa Oyé, reflected on this year’s transition: “We didn’t know what to expect this year making the transition from a free event to a ticketed one and it was truly emotional to see so many people come along for the ride with us on this new journey.”
Duhaney also shared optimism for the upcoming festival, stating, “We’ve kept the ticket prices as affordable as possible for next year and can’t wait to do it all over again in summer 2027 as we celebrate 35 years of Oyé.” Earlybird ticket prices start at £12 for residents of the Liverpool City Region, with children’s tickets available for £2.50, and kids under five admitted for free. Tickets can be purchased through Ticket Quarter and the official Africa Oyé website. The festival promises to continue being a vibrant celebration of African and Caribbean heritage and music in the heart of Liverpool’s Sefton Park
