Liverpool City Council is preparing to support young people eager to take their first steps toward employment through the upcoming Youth Trailblazer event. This government-supported initiative has already aided more than 700 individuals aged 18 to 21 by providing access to pre-employment support services and job placements. Now, a new chance is available for interested young people to learn more about the programme and how it can help them.
The event, titled Your Next Steps, will occur on Wednesday, 23 September, and is specifically aimed at young people aged 18 to 21 who are not currently engaged in education, employment, or training (NEET). It offers guidance to those looking to begin their employment journey. Hosted at PINS Social Club on Duke Street, the event will feature a variety of support partners, including employers with funded vacancies, community organisations, and training agencies. Among the attendees will be groups such as Catch 22, Merseyside Youth Association, The Big Trust, Manifestive CIC, Kings Trust, Sound City, Liverpool Film Office, Liverpool City Council SEND Team, Blackburne House, and Be Free Campaign. Parents and carers are also encouraged to attend.
The gathering is designed as an informal drop-in event, with two timing options to accommodate different preferences. From 11 am to noon, a Quiet Hour is scheduled for attendees who prefer to avoid large crowds. The main event will take place from noon to 2 pm, during which the bowling lanes will be open. Both sessions require prior registration online to help manage attendance. In addition to the opportunity to connect with potential employers and training providers, attendees will receive a complimentary lunch, soft drinks, and a free game of bowling.
Joanne Kennedy, Liverpool City Council’s Cabinet Member for Employment, Educational Attainment and Skills, expressed enthusiasm for the event, saying, “It’s great that the team is back at PINS again, we had a fantastic event in April where young people were walking out the door with job placements that will give them that all important start in the world of employment. Young people out of education, training or work is an issue that affects so many of our communities but the Youth Trailblazer is already having a profound effect. If something benefits young people in the present, it benefits our city as a whole in the long term. Our team at the council has incredible experience and a huge range of relationships with employers and other organisations. I’d encourage any young person who is finding it hard to access employment to come along on 23 September to start a conversation about their future – who knows you may get a slice of some employment action as well as that all-important slice of pizza!”
The Liverpool City Region is among just eight nationally selected pilot areas for the Youth Trailblazer scheme, with nearly £5 million allocated to support innovative approaches that help young people secure meaningful employment. This scheme is currently in its second phase.
