As part of an ongoing investigation into gang-related violence, police conducted a coordinated operation resulting in the arrest of four men during a planned “day of action.” Warrants were carried out at locations in Bellshill and Motherwell, and authorities recovered four stolen vehicles in the process.
Among those detained was a 29-year-old man charged following a car crash into a house in Eaglesham on August 21. Although the accident caused structural damage to the property, no injuries were reported. This individual is scheduled to appear in court on Monday. The recent arrests increase the total made under Operation Portaledge to 81.
Additional arrests connected to separate but related incidents were also made. One 21-year-old man was charged in relation to a disturbance at a premises on Milton Road, Kirkintilloch, on August 18, as well as a deliberate fire incident in the same area on August 22. Furthermore, a 31-year-old man was charged following a car fire in Crowhill Street, Glasgow, on April 6, with no injuries reported. Like the others, he was due to appear in court soon.
Detective Chief Inspector David Lamont emphasized that police are continuing extensive investigations into these events, including reviewing CCTV and conducting forensic examinations. He commented, “This day of action should send a clear message to those involved in this type of criminality, that we will not give up and you will be brought to justice.” Lamont further stressed that the incidents could have resulted in far more serious outcomes and stated, “I want to be absolutely clear – this type of behaviour will not be tolerated.” He added that detectives and specialized resources remain focused on identifying additional suspects linked to these crimes.
