A large-scale sea search operation for a missing 15-year-old boy was called off after two days, according to the Coastguard. The incident began at around 15:30 BST on Sunday when HM Coastguard received a report of three individuals struggling in the water at Marloes Sands beach in Pembrokeshire. While two people were able to make it out safely, the teenage boy, who was visiting the area from Yorkshire on holiday, could not be located.
The search efforts continued through the night and following day but were ultimately suspended at 19:30 BST on Monday. The Maritime and Coastguard Agency informed the BBC that there are currently no plans to restart the search. During the operation, the Angle Lifeboat RNLI praised its crew for working tirelessly over a 22-hour period as part of a significant, coordinated multi-agency effort to find the missing swimmer.
Support for the search included teams from Broad Haven and Dale coastguard rescue, RNLI lifeboats from Angle, Tenby, and St Davids, a pilot boat, a coastguard helicopter, and a fixed-wing aircraft. The Welsh Ambulance Service was also involved. Although the search was briefly paused around 03:30 BST on Monday, it resumed later that morning but was called off by the evening after no sign of the boy was found.
In a statement, the Maritime and Coastguard Agency expressed regret at the outcome, stating that, despite an extensive search, the teenager remained missing. The Angle Lifeboat RNLI also commended its crew for their dedication over the duration of the incident and thanked the Milford Haven Coastguard for their excellent coordination and support.
