A tragic house fire in Grangetown, near Middlesbrough, has resulted in the deaths of two individuals: 34-year-old Natalie McDonald and her seven-year-old niece, Valentina Foster. The fire occurred in the early hours of August 26 and has since led to the charging of a 23-year-old man.
Police have identified Jaden Wright, who currently has no fixed address, as the suspect. He faces two counts of murder as well as several charges related to grievous bodily harm. Wright is scheduled to make a court appearance at Teesside Magistrates’ Court in the near future.
Senior investigating officer Katie Smith from Northumbria Police expressed her condolences, stating, “This has been a truly tragic incident, and my thoughts remain with the families of all those involved.” She also thanked the community for their patience and ongoing support as the investigation continues.
From the Crown Prosecution Service North East, Katie Nicolson emphasized the strength of the evidence gathered, saying, “Our prosecutors have worked closely with Cleveland Police to establish that there is sufficient evidence to bring this case to court.” She also reminded the public about the importance of preserving the fairness of the trial: “It is vital that there should be no reporting, commentary or sharing of information which could in anyway prejudice these proceedings.” Anyone with relevant information has been urged to contact Cleveland Police
