Sarah Ferguson expected back in the UK shortly, source tells BBC

Sarah Ferguson is anticipated to move into a six-bedroom residence very soon, possibly as early as next week, according to a report by the Sun. Since leaving Royal Lodge, she has reportedly been keeping a low profile, spending her time in an Alpine chalet located in Verbier, Switzerland. Recently, her personal belongings were gathered from Mountbatten-Windsor’s home in Sandringham, as noted by the newspaper.

Following her involvement in a scandal linked to Jeffrey Epstein, Ferguson lost her royal titles alongside Mountbatten-Windsor and has largely stayed out of the public eye. The controversy intensified after millions of documents were released last year, shedding new light on her connections to Epstein and prompting calls for her to cooperate with US authorities. One email from 2011 revealed Ferguson privately apologising for her public distancing from Epstein, stating: “You have always been a steadfast, generous and supreme friend to me and my family.”

A spokesperson for Ferguson explained that the email was sent as a response to Epstein’s threat to sue her for defamation, aiming to dissuade him from legal action. Another email suggested that Ferguson had taken her daughters to visit Epstein in the US shortly after his release from prison, where he had served time for child sex crimes. However, these emails have not been interpreted as evidence of any illegal behaviour.

The scandal also led to the downfall of Mountbatten-Windsor, who was stripped of his royal titles by the King due to “serious lapses of judgment” regarding his friendship with Epstein. Despite the measures taken against him, Mountbatten-Windsor has consistently denied any wrongdoing. In addition to losing her courtesy royal divorcee title and reverting to her maiden name, Ferguson had her freedom of the city of York rescinded after a unanimous council vote. Her return to the UK coincides with the recent arrival of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and their children, who have returned after six years living in the United States
