A woman aged 55 from Ballynahinch has admitted to violating a lifetime order of anonymity by sharing information that could potentially identify a victim involved in the sex abuse case concerning Jeffrey Donaldson. Donna Toman, residing in Lord Moira Park, made her guilty plea during a hearing at Downpatrick Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
During the proceedings, a defence attorney confirmed that Toman was pleading guilty to an offense connected to a social media post she made earlier in the year. The charge specifies that the content of the post was “likely to lead members of the public to identify a person as the person against whom a qualifying offence is alleged to have been committed.” Police had earlier announced on 29 July that her arrest was connected to the ongoing Jeffrey Donaldson trial.
District Judge Magill emphasized the gravity of the matter, ordering a pre-sentence report to be prepared by 12 October and noting the seriousness of the offense. It was also brought to the court’s attention that the maximum penalty for this breach could be a six-month prison sentence.
Jeffrey Donaldson, who served as a Member of Parliament from 1997 until 2024, was convicted in June of 18 counts of sexual abuse, including rape, perpetrated against two female victims during their childhood.
