Tributes to 'popular' flight club member who died in plane crash

A tragic incident has deeply impacted a local flying club following the deaths of two of its members. Ketan Swali and his wife, Sheetal Swali, both from Syston in Leicestershire, lost their lives in a light aircraft crash. The plane was discovered in a remote area near Trawsfynydd, Gwynedd, and sadly, the couple were declared dead at the scene.

The search effort began after authorities were alerted around midday on August 14, when the aircraft failed to arrive at Caernarfon Airport as planned. Both air and ground teams were deployed to locate the missing plane, leading to the eventual discovery of the crash site.

Members of the Sherwood Flying Club, located in Staffordshire and where the Swalis were active participants, expressed their sorrow over the loss. The club stated that the tragedy had deeply affected those who knew the couple, reflecting the close-knit nature of the club community.

Martin Olley, chairman of the Sherwood Flying Club, spoke about Ketan’s enthusiasm for flying and the strong connection he had with the aviation community. “Ketan was a very popular member and loved to talk about flying and aviation,” he said. Olley also extended his sympathies, saying, “Our heartfelt condolences go to their families and friends at this difficult time.
