Two accused of drug trafficking after UK-Nigeria investigation

Authorities have charged a man and a woman with international drug trafficking offenses amid a joint investigation involving law enforcement in both the United Kingdom and Nigeria. The individuals implicated are Oladipupo Atandare, aged 50, from Dagenham, and Latifat Yusuf, 44, from Hornchurch. Their arrests came after law enforcement officials in the UK seized over 180 kilograms (397 pounds) of cocaine on August 5.

Following their arrest, Atandare and Yusuf made an appearance at Barkingside Magistrates Court on August 8, where they were remanded in custody. Their case is set to continue at Snaresbrook Crown Court on September 7. The Metropolitan Police clarified that the current charges pertain exclusively to the UK seizure of drugs, but investigations are ongoing concerning a similarly large cocaine haul in Nigeria.

In a related development on Tuesday, Nigerian officials reported uncovering 184.5 kilograms of cocaine valued at approximately £20 million. The drugs were found packed in brown boxes within a courier facility located in Lagos. This discovery has triggered a wider probe, resulting in several arrests within Nigeria.

Among those detained in Nigeria are employees connected to a logistics company as well as a social media influencer who commands nearly 700,000 followers on Instagram. The inquiry continues as authorities work to piece together the full scope of the international trafficking operation
