Manslaughter charge after man's dog bite death in Wakefield

A fatal incident involving a dog bite on a footpath in West Yorkshire has led to manslaughter charges against a man. The victim, a 55-year-old individual, sustained severe injuries during an incident that occurred around 1:30 pm on a disused railway line near Blacker Lane in Calder Grove, Wakefield. Despite medical efforts, he passed away in hospital at approximately 7:00 pm on the same day.

Authorities have identified Lee Ellis, aged 55 and residing on Blacker Lane, as the suspect facing manslaughter charges. Additionally, Ellis is accused of being the owner or person responsible for a dog that was dangerously out of control, resulting in fatal injuries. A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police confirmed these charges.

Ellis has been detained and is set to appear before Leeds Magistrates’ Court in connection with the case. Meanwhile, the dog involved, reportedly a German Shepherd, has been taken into police custody and is currently kept at police kennels.
