Russia warns UK over supplying drones to Ukraine

Russia has formally accused the United Kingdom of intentionally escalating the conflict in Ukraine after it was confirmed that drones manufactured in Britain were deployed in strikes targeting locations within Russia. The Russian Embassy in the UK issued a statement condemning London’s role, characterizing the UK as complicit in what it described as “bloody crimes and terrorist attacks.”

The statement warned that London’s actions would inevitably lead to repercussions, emphasizing that the greater the UK deepens its involvement in the ongoing war, the more severe the consequences it will face. This bold accusation reflects Russia’s frustration over foreign support for Ukraine and suggests escalating diplomatic tensions between the two countries.

In contrast, the UK Ministry of Defence has affirmed its unwavering support for Ukraine. A spokesperson emphasized that the UK stands “shoulder to shoulder” with Ukraine amid Russian aggression. The spokesperson further insisted that “Russia should be in no doubt about the resolve of this Government to stand against Russian aggression,” both in Ukraine and regarding threats posed toward the UK and its allies.

The drones implicated in these strikes, produced by two different British manufacturers, have reportedly been used effectively within Russian territory to target military and industrial infrastructure. Among the targets struck were refineries and logistics centers belonging to Wildberries, often referred to as Russia’s equivalent of Amazon. Ukraine claims to have disabled seven out of ten major Wildberries logistics hubs. A military insider confirmed to the BBC the involvement of UK drones, with the attacks reportedly inflicting over £35 billion in economic damage. Meanwhile, the conflict, which erupted with Russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022, continues as Russia maintains control of roughly one-fifth of Ukrainian land. Russian officials, including foreign ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, have highlighted that these drones, equipped with UK components, were used in specific attacks such as on a fuel depot in Rostov Region’s Kamensky District
