Heathrow Airport is currently experiencing restricted access to Terminals 2 and 3 due to flooding caused by a pipe leak on airport grounds. The presence of water in the central terminal area has made it impossible for travelers to reach these terminals by road. Consequently, passengers are strongly encouraged to use rail and Tube services and avoid car travel to and from these locations.
An airport representative commented on the situation, saying, “Our teams are working to resolve the situation as quickly as possible, we apologise for any disruption caused.” They also confirmed that the leak has been contained and repair work is underway.
This incident has occurred during the school holidays, which represent one of the busiest travel times for Heathrow. On 19 July, the airport experienced its highest passenger volume of the year so far, with 267,000 travelers passing through as many schools started their summer break.
Previously, the airport encountered similar issues involving water leaks, which had led to the closure of a tunnel and disruption to railway services. The current efforts to fix the pipe leak are part of ongoing maintenance to keep operations running smoothly during peak travel periods
