A 102-year-old man has passed away following an alleged assault at a pub in south Wales. Phillip Ormerod, a resident of Cwmbran, Torfaen, was hospitalized in critical condition after the incident that took place on August 1st at the Crow’s Nest pub in the town.
Gwent Police announced on Thursday that Mr. Ormerod has died as a result of his injuries. Authorities have apprehended a 56-year-old man from Llanelli, Carmarthenshire, who is currently under investigation on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.
Emergency services responded to reports of an assault at approximately 22:25 BST on the night in question. Detective Chief Inspector Shelley Comley, who is leading the investigation, addressed the public’s response by stating: “We understand the public interest in this incident but want to remind people that, not only is this an active criminal investigation, but there is a family at the heart of it processing the loss of a loved one.”
She further appealed to the community to be mindful of the consequences that inaccurate or speculative remarks, particularly those made online, can have on the investigation and the family involved.
