A significant quantity of cocaine, estimated to be worth £232 million on the street, was discovered concealed within a large shipment of bananas originating from South America. This substantial shipment, weighing approximately 2.9 tonnes (2,900 kilograms), was brought into London Gateway Port located in Thurrock, Essex, on a recent Thursday.
Authorities from Border Force intercepted the illicit drugs upon arrival at the port. They carefully extracted the cocaine from a trailer, which subsequently was driven by the suspected courier to a location near Buntingford in Hertfordshire. Following this, law enforcement took action and arrested nine men believed to be connected to the smuggling operation.
These individuals were detained in relation to the case but were later released on bail as investigations continued. The discovery and interception of this illegal cargo resulted from intelligence provided to Border Force by the National Crime Agency, which had alerted them about the smuggling attempt prior to its arrival
