Chief Superintendent Emma Croft, who commands the Glasgow division, is leading the police investigation into recent disturbances in the area. Addressing the situation, she urged the public to understand that while only one arrest has been made so far regarding an incident from two weeks prior, the investigation is thorough and requires time to build a solid case for prosecution.
Croft explained to BBC Scotland News that officers have reviewed a vast amount of video footage to identify individuals involved in the disorder. She mentioned that the other alleged offenses under investigation bear similarities to the attack involving a traffic cone. Significantly, she expressed concern that many of these acts appeared to have racist motivations, which is especially troubling to law enforcement.
Since June, police across Scotland have apprehended 56 people connected to various incidents related to protests that amounted to criminal behavior. Chief Superintendent Croft indicated that further arrests are anticipated in connection with these events, emphasizing the ongoing nature of the inquiry.
Speaking on community tensions, Croft acknowledged the widespread frustration caused by divisions within society.
