In south Wales, a violent disturbance has led to the arrest of four men, with two individuals currently in a critical condition in hospital. The incident occurred on Thursday evening around 19:15 in Pontnewydd, near Pontypool, according to Gwent Police. The disorder involved a group of men, prompting a swift response from law enforcement and emergency services.
Following the event, two of the men taken into custody remain held by police, while three men required medical attention and were transported to hospital. The situation necessitated the deployment of specially trained firearms officers along with the National Police Air Service. Paramedics were also present at the scene to provide immediate care.
Detective Chief Superintendent Anne-Marie Salwey condemned the violence, stating, “Violence in any form is completely unacceptable and anyone who is found to be involved in this disorder will be dealt as we will not accept this behaviour in our communities.” She acknowledged community concerns, noting that an increased police presence can be expected in the area as inquiries continue.
Authorities are appealing to the public for assistance, requesting anyone with information, or footage from CCTV or dashcams, taken near Hospital Road and Mill Road between 19:00 and 19:30 on the night of the incident, to come forward. Currently, the road connecting Mill Road and Hospital Road remains closed in both directions, with drivers advised to use alternative routes
