To mark the upcoming 50th anniversary of the iconic film, Star Wars is set to be dubbed into Welsh for the very first time. This significant milestone will see the classic Episode IV – A New Hope brought to Welsh-speaking audiences in a special new version.
The collaboration behind this unique project was revealed by Welsh language broadcaster S4C and Creative Wales during the National Eisteddfod. The initiative is supported by Lucasfilm and Disney, ensuring an authentic adaptation of the beloved film. The Welsh-language version is scheduled to air on S4C and its platforms starting on Christmas Day.
In terms of casting, several prominent Welsh actors have been selected to lend their voices to the film’s legendary characters. Matthew Rhys will portray Han Solo, while Rhys Ifans takes on the role of Obi-Wan Kenobi. Aimee-Ffion Edwards will bring Princess Leia to life, and Star Wars veteran Mark Lewis Jones, who previously appeared as Captain Moden Canady in Episode VIII – The Last Jedi, will voice Darth Vader. Additionally, Osian Morgan will provide the voice for Luke Skywalker.
The production is directed by Ellyn Stern and produced by Michael Kohn, who oversees distribution operations at Lucasfilm.
