Greek authorities are currently investigating the death of Elisabeth-Jane Ross, a Scottish woman whose body was discovered in a suitcase in Athens. The 38-year-old, known as Lisa to her family, was found on 18 July inside an abandoned building located in the Kypseli neighborhood. Reports indicate that a homeless man came across the body. Lisa had reportedly traveled from Edinburgh to Greece in late June and was reported missing on 15 July.
Prior to her disappearance, Lisa had been staying with Greek friends in the Keratsini area, situated about 5.9 miles west of central Athens. She had informed them that she planned to visit Kypseli on 15 July to meet some “American friends” or acquaintances. Greek police are focused on tracing these individuals as part of their investigation.
Regarding the circumstances surrounding her death, officials are awaiting toxicology test results to establish the cause of death and determine if any foul play was involved. The post-mortem examination is still ongoing, and at present, police have not confirmed whether her death will be classified as a homicide. Meanwhile, Lisa’s mobile phone was reportedly active for several days after she died, sending messages and transmitting a signal.
Support for Lisa’s family is being provided by both the Scottish government and the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), which is liaising with Greek authorities.
