Axel Rudakubana, the man convicted of killing three children in Southport, now faces additional charges related to incidents while incarcerated. Authorities have accused him of committing three separate assaults and possessing a weapon during his time at HMP Belmarsh over a six-month period from May to October 2025.
The 19-year-old was responsible for the tragic deaths of Elsie Dot Stancombe, aged seven, Bebe King, six, and nine-year-old Alice da Silva Aguiar. In addition to these fatalities, he injured eight other children and two adults during an attack at a dance class inspired by Taylor Swift in July 2024. Following these crimes, Rudakubana received a 52-year prison sentence in January 2025 and was recently transferred to a secure psychiatric hospital earlier this month.
His upcoming court appearance is scheduled to take place remotely at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on 11 September. The new charges against him include assaulting emergency workers twice—on 6 May and 28 October 2025—attempted grievous bodily harm on 8 May 2025, and the unauthorized possession of an offensive weapon within the prison on 26 June 2025. Notably, one of these assaults involved boiling water being thrown at a prison officer, who required hospital treatment but was discharged the same day.
When Rudakubana was sentenced, the judge was unable to issue a whole life order because he was under 18 during the killings, though it is expected that he will spend the rest of his life in custody. On 23 July, the Ministry of Justice confirmed his transfer from HMP Belmarsh to Broadmoor, a high-security psychiatric facility in Berkshire. This move, mandated by the Mental Health Act following medical advice on his ability to be safely held in prison, has drawn criticism from a lawyer representing the victims’ families
