Emergency services responded promptly after two men fell from a height. Silcox, aged 56 and from Pontnewydd in Cwmbran, passed away approximately two hours after the incident. His companion, Thomas, 54, also from Cwmbran, was initially treated on the island before being transferred to the UK for further care.
Thomas was admitted to Doctor Jose Molina Orosa Hospital for immediate treatment following the fall. Later, he was flown back to the United Kingdom at the end of November and received treatment at University Hospital Llandough in Cardiff. Despite medical efforts, Thomas died nearly ten months later, on 10 July.
During the inquest into Thomas’ death, Gwent coroner Rose Farmer revealed that the fall occurred when a wooden bannister gave way. The men fell from a height estimated to be between 15 and 22 feet (4.6 to 6.7 meters). Thomas worked as a shop manager at the time of the accident.
An earlier inquest into Silcox’s death established the cause as severe injuries, including a traumatic brain injury, skull fractures, and lacerations to the skull. Both men’s injuries were sustained from the same incident, which tragically resulted in their deaths several months apart
