A tragic incident unfolded off the coast of Essex when a mother and her daughter were swept out to sea by what a family member described as a “very strong” tide. The two victims were among a group of relatives enjoying time at West Mersea beach when the accident occurred.
Shahin Ahmed recounted that six members of his family were paddling in the water on Wednesday afternoon when the powerful tide suddenly knocked them off their feet. The victims were identified as 41-year-old Shelina Rahman and her 15-year-old daughter Sameeha, both of whom lost their lives in the incident. Meanwhile, Ahmed’s seven-year-old son, Musa, was critically injured and subsequently airlifted to a London hospital.
According to Ahmed, Musa remains on life support as he fights for his recovery. Besides these three, three additional family members required hospital treatment and were taken by ambulance to a different medical facility. In total, Ahmed explained that 12 family members had visited West Mersea on that day to spend time together.
Reflecting on the day’s events, Ahmed told Bangladeshi publication Surma News that the family had planned to leave just 20 minutes before the tragedy happened. He added, “The whole day, alhamdulillah (praise be to God), was really nice,” highlighting the sudden and devastating turn of what had been a pleasant outing
