Several areas, including Usk in Monmouthshire and Exeter in Devon, are expected to see temperatures fall below the heatwave threshold for the first time in 21 days. This will end their third heatwave of the year, bringing a welcome break from the sustained high temperatures.
Throughout the day, a fresher breeze will develop, with temperatures mainly reaching the mid-20s Celsius in the south-east and cooling down to the mid-teens Celsius in northern parts of the country. Despite this brief period of relief, it is not expected to last long.
Looking ahead to next week, a developing high-pressure system over the south of the UK will block rain-bearing fronts, confining any wet weather to northern and western regions, particularly north-west Scotland. Meanwhile, southern areas are set to experience rising temperatures once more, as the UK draws in warmth from continental Europe. This suggests another heatwave is on the horizon, with temperatures likely to soar between 25 and 32 degrees Celsius across England and Wales for much of the upcoming week
