In a recent exclusive conversation with Laura Kuenssberg of the BBC, Andy Burnham firmly rejected the prospect of calling an early general election. He stated, “I’m going to rule it out… I don’t think people want it.”
Burnham justified his stance by pointing out that most voters had already expressed their preferences through the last election’s manifesto. He emphasized his commitment to respecting that mandate, assuring that he would do so with the backing of his parliamentary colleagues.
Further elaborating on his priorities, the new prime minister said, “I just think what I most need to do is get Britain focused on getting the country back where it should be, getting it working.”
The full interview, titled Andy Burnham: The Laura Kuenssberg Interview, is set to air across BBC News on Sunday, with a complete broadcast scheduled for Panorama on BBC One at 20:00 BST on Monday
