Irish police, known as Gardaí, have successfully stopped a vehicle containing a bomb in County Monaghan. Authorities believe the device was being transported across the border with the intention of carrying out an attack in Northern Ireland. The incident occurred around 3 p.m. local time on Wednesday near Carrickmacross along the N2 road.
Following the interception, two individuals were taken into custody. A woman in her 20s, who was driving the car, was arrested on the same day. Subsequently, a man in his 40s was also detained in connection with the incident. According to reports from the Irish broadcaster RTÉ, the explosive device found inside the car was fully assembled and operational.
This arrest operation was conducted as part of efforts to counteract dissident republican activities. Gardaí sought the expertise of the Irish Defence Forces Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit to inspect the vehicle. However, the Gardaí have chosen not to disclose the results of this examination, citing operational security reasons.
