A 70-year-old woman has been formally charged in connection with the death last year of Karen Carter, a British-South African mother of four, in the village of Trémolat, France. Karen, aged 65, was discovered with stab wounds near her vehicle by a friend. She had lived in Trémolat, located in the Dordogne region, for over ten years, where she also managed two holiday rental properties.
According to prosecutors, the woman was initially taken into custody in 2025 as part of early investigations but was later released. Investigating judge Jacques-Edouard Andrault confirmed on Wednesday that ongoing investigations since the judicial inquiry was opened on May 7, 2025, justified advancing the case to the next stage.
