He recognized the grave challenges facing the UK and emphasized the need for the Labour government under Andy Burnham to succeed in addressing them.
Following Sarwar’s departure, Dame Jackie Baillie has stepped in as acting leader of Scottish Labour. Baillie praised Sarwar’s leadership and vision for a fairer Scotland, while informing that the Scottish Executive Committee will soon arrange a timetable to elect a new party leader. The resignation also aligns with current regulations that prevent politicians from simultaneously holding seats in the House of Commons and the Scottish Parliament.
