A young boy from Cambridgeshire was attacked while visiting a zoo with his family. The injuries he sustained were severe, affecting his arms, neck, head, and face, with several broken bones reported. Most recently, he underwent surgery that included a nerve graft procedure on his arm.
The family described their experience at Addenbrooke’s Hospital as “the worst 12 hours” of their lives following the incident. During this time, they had to sign consent forms related to resuscitation and possible amputation, highlighting the seriousness of the boy’s condition.
According to reports, the individual arrested in connection with the attack was a man with learning disabilities who did not know the child. He was on an outing with carers at the time. Police have since released him on bail until 18 September, noting that he was “assessed as not being fit for interview.”
The Care Quality Commission has initiated an investigation into the care provided to the man who was arrested. Additionally, Norfolk County Council, which was not responsible for the man’s care, has opened its own inquiry under the Care Act 2014
