Laurence Taylor, who leads UK Counter Terrorism Policing, addressed the media outside New Scotland Yard regarding the ongoing investigation into Kerry. He emphasized that efforts to uncover Kerry’s motivations and any related activities are still underway. Taylor described the inquiry as “a particularly intensive and complex investigation” and noted that understanding the reasons behind the murder is central to the police work.
Taylor also clarified that authorities are not currently seeking any additional suspects linked to the incident. Over the past week, counter terrorism teams have collected a substantial amount of information, resulting in more than 800 lines of enquiry. The investigation is being spearheaded by Counter Terrorism Policing South East with support from Devon and Cornwall Police.
From the prosecutorial side, Frank Ferguson, representing the Crown Prosecution Service’s special crime and counter terrorism division, confirmed close collaboration with the police. He stated, “Our prosecutors have worked closely with the police to establish that there is sufficient evidence to bring this case to court, and we will continue working with them as their investigation progresses.” Ferguson also reminded the public of the importance of maintaining the defendant’s right to a fair trial and cautioned against any media coverage or commentary that might prejudice the ongoing proceedings.
The late Ann Widdecombe, whose death prompted the investigation, had a long career in politics. A Conservative MP for Maidstone in Kent for 23 years, Widdecombe held ministerial positions in the 1990s under Sir John Major’s government. After leaving Parliament, she participated in the BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing in 2010 and later came second on Celebrity Big Brother in 2018. She went on to serve as a Member of the European Parliament for the Brexit Party representing South West England, before joining Reform UK as a party spokeswoman in 2023.
