A man has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of a father of three in Livingston, West Lothian. Connor Manners, aged 27, was involved in a fatal knife attack on Gary Nicol after using a dating app to arrange their meeting near a primary school on 26 September 2024. Manners had previously pleaded guilty to stabbing and slashing Nicol during the incident that occurred in the early hours.
During the sentencing hearing at the High Court in Edinburgh, the judge imposed a minimum term of 20 years on Manners but cautioned that he may never be released. Advocate depute Alan Cameron KC outlined the circumstances to the court, stating that although there were no witnesses to the encounter, “the accused lured him there with an intention to do him harm.” He further explained that Manners arrived armed with a knife and a crossbow, and proceeded to repeatedly stab and fatally wound Nicol.
In pronouncing the sentence, Lord Renucci described Manners’ actions as a “brutal, premeditated and cowardly attack on an unsuspecting victim.” The judge emphasized the severity of the crime and noted that any consideration of Manners’ release in the future would rest with the parole board.
